Connect GitHub Copilot in VS Code to Skillset
Add Skillset to VS Code’s MCP server configuration and use its tools from agent chat.
One connection. Three steps.
- Open VS Code’s MCP configuration for your user or workspace. Merge the server entry below.
- Start Skillset from the MCP server controls. Complete the browser authorization if prompted.
- In Copilot agent chat, enable the Skillset tools and ask to list your library.

Need a personal key? Open Connections. Browser sign-in is available in clients that support Skillset’s OAuth connection.
Check that your skill is being used
Ask: “List my Skillset skills. Load the skill I choose, then tell me its name and version before starting.” Look for a successful use_skill tool result in your AI app. Loading instructions does not mean the AI has completed the task.
Will this create a local skill file?
No. Skillset shares the selected instructions through MCP. Your AI app may display them as a tool result rather than in its native Skills folder.
Do I reconnect after buying another skill?
No. Ask your AI to refresh the list. Skillset checks your account’s current access each time it loads a skill.
Can this publish to Shopify or run ads?
A skill supplies the workflow. Your AI also needs separately connected tools and account permissions. Review the product page, campaign, and budget before approving a launch.
